📖Story of the Day
The owner of a small restaurant in Tucson, Arizona received a letter from a former waitress who had decided to return the money she had stolen — plus interest. Inside the envelope was $1,000.
In the letter, the waitress confessed that during her time at the restaurant she had been skimming cash, serving drinks off the books and pocketing the money. She admitted that she had “grown up in church,” always believed in God, and clearly understood that what she was doing was wrong — but foolishly kept doing it anyway.
“Twenty years have passed, and not a single day went by without my conscience tormenting me. I deeply regret stealing from you. I ask for your forgiveness, and I’m including the extra amount that has accumulated as interest over these 20 years. May God bless you and your whole family.”
By coincidence, the letter arrived the very next day after pickpockets had stolen the restaurant owner’s wallet with all her cash. The letter restored her faith in God. She told her son:
“Jesus hasn’t abandoned us.”
